Mint 17 Xfce: Install StudioTax 2014 using Wine

  • Using the Software Manager:
    • Install ttf-mscorefonts-installer ← Search for “ttf” to find this
      • Pop-Up window → CHECK the “Do you accpet the EULA license terms?” box, then select “Forward”
      • Note: this will take noticeably longer to finish installing, compared to the other packages
    • Install p7zip-full ← search for 7zip
    • Install p7zip-rar
    • Install wine ← Microsoft windows compatibility layer (meta-package)
    • Install winetricks
  • “Menu” icon » Wine » Winetricks
    • for the “Wine Mono Installer” pop-up Select the Cancel button
    • for the “Wine Gecko Installer” pop-up select the Cancel button
    • in the “Winetricks - choose a wineprefix” window
      • Leave Select the default wineprefix → then Select the OK button
      • to the “One-time question about hellping Winetricks development* → Select the No button, then the OK button
      • Now the window asks “What would you like to do with this wineprefix?”
        • Select “Install a Windows DLL or component”, then the OK button
      • On the window that asks “Which package(s) would you like to install?”
        • Select “dotnet20sp2
        • Select “dotnet40
        • then Select the OK button
      • Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 install:
        • for the pop-up that says “Mono does not appear to be installed” → Select the OK button
        • Follow the Microsoft Windows prompts to install the .NET 2.0 Framework
        • for the pop-up that says “Working around bug 22521 – … ” → Select the OK button
        • Continue to follow the Microsoft prompts to install .NET 2.0 SP2
        • When the Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 Setup finally finishes → Select the Restart Later button
      • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Install:
        • to the “dotnet40 does not yet fully work or install on wine.” pop-up → Select the OK button
        • for the pop-up that says “Mono does not appear to be installed” → Select the OK button
        • Follow the Microsoft Windows prompts to install the .NET 4.0 Framework
        • When the “Installation Is Complete window appears → select the Finish button
      • when the “Winetricks - current prefix is … ” window appears → Select the OK button
    • Now Close the Winetricks window

RESTART SYSTEM

  • from the site www.studiotax.com → download the 2014 EXE (save to ~/Downloads)
  • COPY the file StudioTax2014Install.exe to the folder ~/.wine/drive_c/users/[user]/Desktop/
  • “Menu” icon » Wine » Browse C: Drive → go to users » [user] » Desktop
    • Right-Click on StudioTax2014install.exe → Select Open With “Wine Windows Program Loader”
  • Follow the Installer Window prompts to install this package.

  * ensure that **''ttf-mscorefonts-installer''** was installed per the above instructions
